Focused Couples Intensive

Couples Intensive Therapy in Allen, TX A Focused, Immersive Approach for Couples Who Need More Than a Weekly Session

What is a Couples Intensive?

A couples intensive is an extended therapy experience that allows a couple to devote concentrated time to their relationship rather than working only in traditional 50–60 minute weekly sessions.

Instead of repeatedly stopping a difficult conversation because the session has ended, an intensive provides additional time to slow down, understand the patterns underneath the conflict, and work through important relationship issues with therapeutic guidance.

Depending on your goals and clinical needs, intensive couples therapy may focus on:

  • Communication and recurring conflict
  • Emotional disconnection
  • Rebuilding trust
  • Infidelity and relationship betrayal
  • Attachment injuries
  • Difficult conversations that couples have been unable to have productively
  • Repeated cycles of pursuing, withdrawing, criticizing, or shutting down
  • Major relationship transitions
  • Determining whether the relationship can be repaired
  • Reconnecting after a prolonged period of disconnection
  • Creating a clearer plan for continued relationship work

The goal is not simply to talk for longer.

The goal is to use the additional time intentionally.

This format may be a good fit for:

Couples Intensives can be especially helpful for partners who want dedicated time to focus on their relationship but find weekly therapy difficult to maintain.

An intensive may be worth considering if you find yourself saying:

"We keep having the same argument."
"We talk about the problem, but nothing changes."
"We don't have time for weekly therapy."
"Something happened between us, and we don't know how to move forward."
"We want to repair our relationship, but we're overwhelmed."
"We're considering separation or divorce and don't know what to do."
"We need more focused help than a regular weekly session is providing."

An intensive can be particularly useful when a couple has enough stability to engage in extended therapeutic work but needs more concentrated time and structure than weekly counseling provides.

Your Investment

Two-Day Couples Intensive: $2,500

The full two-day intensive is approximately 10–12 hours of extended couples therapy, along with pre-intensive preparation and post-intensive recommendations.

Couples intensives are offered on select dates and are limited each month so that adequate preparation and dedicated therapeutic time can be provided.

A $1,250 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your intensive dates.

Because an intensive reserves substantial blocks of clinical time specifically for your relationship, scheduling and cancellation policies apply.

What to Expect

What Happens During a Couples Intensive?

Your intensive is individualized to your relationship rather than following a one-size-fits-all script.

1. Pre-Intensive Assessment and Preparation

Before the intensive, we gather information about your relationship, concerns, goals, and history.

Preparation may include:

  • Individual reflection
  • Relationship history
  • Identifying primary concerns
  • Relationship assessments, when clinically appropriate
  • The Gottman Relationship Checkup
  • Clarifying goals for the intensive
  • Identifying topics that require particular care

This preparation helps us use the intensive time intentionally.

2. Two Days of Focused Couples Therapy

The intensive consists of extended therapy sessions over two days, generally 5–6 hours per day, with appropriate breaks.

The work may include:

  • Identifying negative interaction cycles
  • Understanding underlying emotional needs
  • Exploring attachment patterns
  • Improving communication
  • Processing relationship injuries
  • Addressing unresolved conflict
  • Rebuilding emotional connection
  • Developing healthier ways of responding to one another
  • Identifying concrete changes that need to continue after the intensive

The exact structure depends on your relationship and clinical needs.

3. Post-Intensive Integration

The intensive is not intended to be the end of the therapeutic process simply because the two days are complete.

Afterward, you receive recommendations for continuing the work, which may include:

  • Individual or couples therapy
  • Follow-up sessions
  • Communication practices
  • Relationship exercises
  • Specific areas to continue addressing
  • Additional professional resources when appropriate
  • https://a.co/d/00QLzNRc Sally Zuraikat's booklet

The goal is to help you leave the intensive with greater clarity about what comes next, rather than simply returning home after two long days of therapy.

Why Couples Choose an Intensive Instead of Weekly Therapy

How We Determine Whether an Intensive Is Appropriate

We don't believe every couple should automatically be placed into an intensive.

During the consultation and assessment process, we consider your relationship dynamics, current concerns, goals, emotional stability, and ability to participate productively in extended couples therapy.

In some situations, weekly couples therapy may be the better starting point.

In other situations, an intensive may provide the focused structure that a couple needs.

Our goal is to help you choose the right level of care for your relationship.
